This painting addresses the importance of respecting American Sign Language (ASL), Deaf values, Deaf culture, and Deaf education. It reflects the experience of Deaf students placed in mainstream educational settings where their natural access to Deaf social interaction is often reduced or removed. When this occurs, isolation can develop, and Deaf individuals may feel a loss of cultural connection and identity.
