This painting is inspired by the words of Roz Rosen: “Sign language is a human right; it is not just an option.”

The painting affirms that access to sign language is a fundamental human right for Deaf people, especially Deaf children. Language is essential to cognitive development, education, communication, identity, and belonging. When Deaf children are denied early access to sign language, they are denied full access to language during a critical period of development.

Through this work, I advocate for the recognition and protection of sign languages as equal to spoken languages. The painting reminds viewers that sign language is not a last resort or an optional accommodation—it is a natural language and a basic human right that should be respected, supported, and made accessible to every Deaf child.
