Hand Dandelions is inspired by the powerful work of Deaf poet Clayton Valli and his celebrated ASL poem Dandelion.
In his performance, the dandelion becomes a living metaphor expressed through hand shape and movement. What begins as a small bud grows upward, unfolding into a bright yellow flower. As it matures, it transforms into a delicate white seed head, its leaves and seeds waving and scattering into the air.

Valli’s dandelion is more than a flower — it is an affirmation. Through American Sign Language, he shows growth, resilience, identity, and the natural cycle of becoming. The hand itself becomes the blossom, embodying both fragility and strength.

This painting reflects that poetic transformation: the hand as flower, the flower as language, and language as life — growing, maturing, and releasing its seeds into the world.
