Description about the painting:
This painting is Thomas Brown, February 25, 1804 - March 23, 1886. Mr. Brown was a great leader who helped prepare the foundation of the National Association of the Deaf. He was one of the first Deaf people to promote an organization of Deaf people. He helped started the first NAD and how he came up with the idea of a Deaf community as a national community. Mr. Brown had a Deaf father, Deaf sister, Deaf nephews and Deaf children himself. His wife, Mary Smith came from Chilmark, Martha’s Vineyard and had many Deaf and Hearing relatives.
