This painting is about Milan 1880 after the resolutions had passed. "Pure oralism' washed over Europe like a flood tide. Many people and schools were swept up in its advance. There is no single explanation for such tides in human affairs." "Cleared the way for its progress from east to west." Harlan Lane 1984. The table at the center, has a special meaning. It is a school table, and it represents Deaf schools where sign language was used and Deaf teachers taught Deaf children. The dark black clouds traveled across the Atlantic Ocean to west, to every Deaf schools including American School for the Deaf.
