Description about the painting:
The painting, Struggled Puppets is about Audism and what is happening these days that impacted the deaf community who were treated as "pulled string puppets" controlled by oralism, i.e. Alexander Graham Bell, mainstream programs, professionals, etc., who do not support America Sign Language, or respect Deaf culture. This has been ongoing for years. Motif: Blue Painter's tape is wrapped around the hands which symbolizes Deaf children are not allowed to sign. They were told to learn to speak and listen as Alexander Graham Bell said, "we should try ourselves to forget that they are deaf. We should teach them to forget that they are deaf." What the deaf community hears and how they struggled for years to overcome Oralism. The two Deaf people are tangled in the wires and are struggling to pull the wires down from the controllers, to keep them from oppressing them. This painting is owned by the Istituto dei Sordi di Torino in Turin, Italy.
