Description about the painting:
Day 23, 31 Days in March Project
This painting is about Deaf growing up orally. The puzzle pieces do not fit and some are missing and only a few were put together. Some pieces fell out. A life growing up orally for a Deaf person was a nightmare. There are scares in the head that cannot be forgotten. A Deaf person had to go through speech therapy and remembered seeing a clapping monkey with beady eyes. A Deaf person remembers hands been slapped or whipped and ended up with swollen hands. A Deaf person's reading and writing was at a third grade level. A Deaf person misunderstood the conversation because lip reading was not effective. A Deaf person did not learn enough about the world because speech therapy was too important. A Deaf person was put in a mainstreamed program and often feeling isolated and left out. This is still happening today.
