Lost Identity 11 inch by 14 inch oil on canvas SOLD see elarge image
This painting shows the cluttered utility and telephone poles with many electrical and fiber optic cables that looks confusing. This is a concept where a Deaf person feels a lost identity, not knowing who the person is, or where to go, or which direction to follow, walks through a complicated surroundings. The colour shapes represent social media, social change and social justice that are placed in the cables and on the ground make life more confusing.
Based on my artist in residencies, I have seen many Deaf youths wandering around, searching for their lost identity where they were coming from mainstreamed programs, or how they were raised or taught, have language deprivation. On the painting, there is a shadow of someone walking.
