Description about the painting:

Day 30, June 30th, painting of the series '30 Days in June Project.'
This painting is about language deprivation. Very much alive, as it is part of the Second Wave of Oralism. The Deaf child's identity has been robbed and still yet has a heart for ASL. He is like a ventriloquist. His mouth has braces locked on, keeping his mouth open. His natural language is deteriorating. His fingers are wrapped in bandaids from whipping, slapped, hit, tied from using ASL. The child's eyes represent being brainwashed by the professionals who think $$$. The blue person wraps him around, is the Mask of Benevolence- AFA's painter's blue tape. Speaking and listening constantly degraded the child's language development. Children who are born deaf has their natural language right in the beginning. This mishap has to stop. Let the Deaf children develop their natural language in order to increase their cognitive activities. A good article to read, written by Tom Humphries
