James Gallaher (1857-1914) went to the Illinois School for the Deaf. He taught at the Chicago Day School for the Deaf and became principal of the Evansville (Ill.) School for the Deaf. However, he spent most his life working as an editor, printer, and publisher. Two editions of his book, Representative Deaf Persons of the United States, described the lives of successful Deaf people who lived in the late1890s. credited to Karen Christie
