Description:
Community Accountability addresses the issue of domestic violence within the Deaf community and emphasizes the responsibility of the community to support those experiencing abuse. When someone recognizes the signs of violence or emotional abuse, they should not remain silent—they should offer help, compassion, and protection.

The figure painted in blue and black represents the victim. The blue symbolizes the blue tape motif, a recurring symbol in my work that represents emotional abuse, oppression, and being silenced. The victim signs “FEAR,” “AFRAID,” and “SCARED,” expressing the emotional trauma they endure.

The red and yellow figure represents hope, strength, and compassion. Yellow symbolizes hope, light, and the comfort of a caring community reaching out with love and support. The young child represents the Deaf community standing together to comfort, protect, and uplift the victim. This painting is a call for collective responsibility, reminding us that healing begins when a community chooses to act rather than look away.
