This painting is in honor of Clayton Valli, a highly influential ASL poet and linguist. The work is inspired by his poem “Dandelion,” one of his most well-known performances. Valli was a linguistic genius whose research and poetry helped shape the understanding and appreciation of American Sign Language as a rich visual language. He also authored important works in the field of linguistics and Deaf studies.
