ASL vs. LSL

30 Days in June Project
ASL vs. LSL 8 inch by 10 inch oil on stretched canvas $90 click on image.

Description about the painting:

Day 21, June 21st, painting of the series '30 Days in June Project.'

This painting is actually about oralism vs. manualism. This is about the Deaf person's inside/outside feelings.
The red person has been working hard to say the 'g' sound. Over and over again and frustrated. The person
says, 'I cannot hear it. I'm tired and I am doing this for you.'

LSL stands for Listening Speech and Language. This method is being taught at oral schools. LSL is what speech and listening is focused on. The yellow person is very content and comfortable and eager to learn more about the world and understands instantly thru American Sign Language, rather than focusing on learning to speak right. 'Teach me more, more and more.' The learning never stops.
