Description about the painting:
This painting is part of Deaf Art and American Sign Language. There are two sentences in the painting. 'With no ASL, a Deaf mind is a terrible thing to waste' and 'With ASL, a Deaf mind THRIVES.' The blue tape (a symbol to cross out something on Deaf Culture) are crossed over the words 'no', 'is a terrible thing to waste.' That would have been a negative perspective. 'With ASL, a Deaf mind THRIVES' refers to using sign language, develops a great mind — a Deaf Mind. A Deaf mind is how a mind is developed thru visualization of a Deaf person and how a Deaf person thinks. There is a painting of 'The Deaf Mind' and has a deeper explanation to it. This Deaf mind painting is used here in this painting with the hand sign 'mind.'
