Description about the painting:
This painting is actually about the U.S. Bureau of Census as they do not recognize American Sign Language on the census form. The Deaf community is hoping that one day they will recognize it and to amend to a new law. There are many parts of the countries around the world, who recognize sign language. In 2013, American Sign Language will celebrate its 100th year. See link in the Deaf Politics blog about the U.S. Bureau of Census.

In the painting, the school class picture was taken and one Deaf student who is mainstreamed, stood up and signed 'A-S-L' with pride. The colors on A-S-L represents Hope.
