Letters from Colorado Springs Students

These heartfelt letters were written and mailed to me by a group of third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade students from a public elementary school in Colorado Springs, Colorado. As part of their art studies, the students learned about my work as a Deaf artist and explored my use of bold primary colors to express Deaf culture, identity, and experiences.

Inspired by my paintings and artistic journey, the students created thoughtful letters sharing their reflections, questions, and personal responses. Their words demonstrate how art can inspire curiosity, creativity, and meaningful conversations across communities.

Receiving these letters was a deeply touching experience and a reminder that art has the power to connect people of all ages, encouraging empathy, understanding, and self-expression.
